Planning Application Submitted for BESS at Halesowen, Dudley

21/07/2023

Firstway Energy has submitted a planning application to Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council for a 100MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Illey Lane, Halesowen, Dudley.

The proposed development covers a total area of 5.2ha, with the footprint of the BESS totaling 1.1ha. Once operational, the BESS will be able to power 323,795 homes over a two-hour period.

The proposed site was selected following the identification of capacity within the local electricity grid and a thorough site selection process was undertaken, taking into account key planning and environmental constraints.

Natural site constraints have been factored into the design of the proposed development and avoided, where possible. Further, biodiversity net gain is a fundamental priority for Firstway Energy and the proposed development would deliver over 20% and 16% in biodiversity net gain with regard to habitat units and hedgerow units, over and above the 10% legal requirement that will come into force through The Environment Act 2021.
